Climate change

So the government ministers are wanting climate change to influence the budget. The treasury are being asked to combat global warming. Er, how exactly will a bunch of accountants persuade Mother Nature from taking her natural course? When are they going to get it into their thick heads that global warming is a natural process? The globe has been warming up since the last ice age.

Or maybe they already know this. But by using the environmental trump card they can introduce taxes, in the name of saving the planet you understand, by piling the guilt on the population about greenhouse gas emissions. I wonder just what percentage of greenhouse gases humans actually produce. Or maybe they're going to tax farmers depending on how much their cows fart. Methane is a greenhouse gas too.

Environmental taxes have nothing whatsoever to do with the environment. They have everything to do with collecting revenues. Environmental issues are contructed purely to trigger the guilt in the population.

Flooding is not caused by rainfall but by piss poor urban planning. The redevelopment of natural flood plains for housing has meant that rivers have nowhere to take the swell during wetter periods, so they end up bursting their banks causing flooding in towns and cities. Flooding has been caused by the greed of the building corporations, not some granny burning coal to keep warm.

Greenhouse gases would be emitted whether we are here or not. Animals produce carbon dioxide and methane in vast quantities. Our atmosphere is 20% oxygen, a gas that supports combustion. There are forests made from carbon. When carbon reacts with oxygen it produces carbon dioxide. All it needs is an ignition source. Like lightning. How much greenhouse gas would a forest fire cause? Perhaps the gods need to be taxed on their use of lightning.

Any government minister who claims to care for the welfare of the planet and its environment is really formulating a plan to either extract more taxes or enforce more control over the population. Or probably both.

Erm... we're well past the point where Nature would influence the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Levels of CO2 are about 80 times higher now than they were at any point in as far back as scientists can trace. So no, it is a problem and I congratulate the government for over taxing the kind of 4x4 driving wankers who are doing nothing but slowly poisoning everyone on the planet.

I didn't mention anything about nature influencing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It's increasing, it will continue to increase whether we were here or not. Taxing 4x4 driving wankers will not cause it to decrease. Taxing them to piss them off is funny but don't pretend it will help the environment.

As for CO2 levels being higher than any point as far back as scientists can trace - I'm sure I've read that the atmosphere has been quite high in CO2 in the past, but then trees came along and started removing the carbon from the atmosphere for their own means, replacing the CO2 with corrosive oxygen gas.

Saving the environment should be rewritten as attempting to preserve it in the state in which it's most agreeable to us humans.
